The useful starting point

Find the right local authority, verify a contractor’s scope and request useful approval records for aluminum wiring work in Canada or the United States.

01

Start with the property location

A country-wide website can accept a request without being the permit authority for the work. Identify the province or state, municipality and property address before applying a requirement. The electrician should confirm the responsible authority, applicable rules, required permit or notification and inspection process for the actual scope.

A nearby city’s guide may explain the process without governing your property. County boundaries, municipal responsibilities and utility territories do not always align. Ask the provider to name the authority rather than saying simply that “code does not require it.”

02

Canada: keep provincial and local records distinct

Ontario ESA guidance and its Certificate of Acceptance process are Ontario references. An Ontario record should not be presented as a national certificate. In Alberta, the provincial electrical codes page and the relevant local permit issuer are starting points. Edmonton’s residential permit page is a municipal example, rather than a rule for every Canadian property.

For other provinces and territories, ask who issues the permit and verifies the work. Keep the authority’s name and original documents in the project file. If a contractor uses a certification term, ask which organization issued it, which work it covers and how the recipient can verify it.

03

United States: separate consumer guidance from local approval

The CPSC repair publication is a federal consumer-safety reference. It does not issue a local permit for a property. Ask the responsible local authority and contractor to confirm the requirements and inspection route for the planned repair or rewiring.

State licensing, local registration and a manufacturer’s system authorization answer different questions. Verify the credential relevant to the contractor and location; verify proprietary-system qualifications separately where applicable. A product marking by itself does not establish that every proposed use or the whole installation has been approved.

04

Ask for a record that identifies the actual work

RecordDetail to keep
Authority and permitIssuer, identifier, location and scope.
ContractorLegal business identity and relevant credential verification.
Inspection outcomeActual document or outcome, date, covered work and unresolved deficiencies.
Method and coverageExact repair or replacement scope and retained wiring.
Recipient responseInsurer or other recipient’s written acceptance or request for more evidence.
05

Put responsibilities in the quotation

Ask who obtains any required permit, schedules inspections, resolves identified deficiencies and supplies completion records. Specify whether fees are included or allowances. An owner should not discover after completion that each party expected someone else to arrange the inspection.

Keep utility coordination separate where incoming-service work is involved. A branch-circuit remediation quote need not include every service or distribution issue. Use the branch wiring and feeders guide to prepare the boundary questions, then let the responsible professionals establish the actual arrangement.

06

Request help with the location attached

Hause accepts enquiries throughout Canada and the United States. Include the province, state or territory, city and postal or ZIP code. That makes a useful initial review possible without pretending a nationwide roster or booked appointment exists.

The service-area page explains the intake scope. Any proposed professional must confirm its availability, qualifications and local process before you engage it. A submitted enquiry is the start of that review, not a permit application.

Questions / Direct answers

Common questions

Is an ESA certificate valid as a national Canada certificate?
The ESA process is Ontario-specific. Keep the actual jurisdiction and covered work visible.
Does CPSC approval replace a permit?
No. Consumer guidance and local permission or inspection are separate matters.
Can requests come from rural properties or territories?
Yes. Include the actual location. Local professional availability is confirmed individually.

Do not open electrical equipment or work on energized systems. Permits, qualified trades and inspection requirements vary by location. This guide does not design an installation or certify existing equipment.
